Betty Kandé

Biography

Betty Kandé did not attend the Beaux-Arts, but rather studied Law and International Trade in Lille.

It was on arriving in France that she began drawing, as there was a painting studio not far from the Lille II Faculty of Law.

It was important for Betty to master the fundamentals of art before being able to do with it what she really wanted. She has since lived in many countries — Côte d'Ivoire, South Africa, the United States and Senegal — but has always attended workshops to acquire new techniques.

Her works show the beauty, the strength, the pride and the identity of Africa. All these beautiful things and small gratuitous pleasures, like the sight of a beautiful landscape that one might tend to overlook, not appreciate at its true worth, or worse, consign to oblivion.
